Every long-haul flight ends the same way.

Not at baggage claim. Not at customs.

At the convenience store.

Sometimes it's for the toiletries I left by the sink at home.

Sometimes it's for hydration — abandoned, forgotten, or never packed, somewhere back at Terminal 1.

And sometimes it's for food, or whatever resembles it, at this hour, in this state.

Delirious. Floating through time zones. Wandering the aisles like a man looking for something he can't quite name.

The strange, perfect egg salad sandwich from a package no one back home would believe if you tried to explain it.

You can watch it on a screen. And people do, by the millions.

But this one, you have to experience for yourself.

Oh, and did I mention I found my toothpaste, too?
